RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. — Jeffrey H. Lawson, M.D., Ph.D., Vice Chair for Research, Professor of Surgery and Pathology at Duke University Medical Center (Durham, N.C.), Director of the Vascular Research Laboratory, Director of Clinical Trials for the Department of Surgery and clinical consultant to Humacyte, a pioneering biotechnology firm, presented at the 2015 Vascular Access Society of the Americas (VASA) Practicum that was held May 14-16 at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, N.C.
His presentation, Tissue Engineering of Vascular Access Grafts, took place on May 16.
Dr. Lawson discussed Humacyte’s Humacyl™ a human acellular vessel that is being developed for key applications in regenerative medicine and vascular surgery to an attending audience of transplant, vascular and general surgeons, nephrologists, interventional radiologists and nephrologists, nurses and dialysis technicians.
Dr. Lawson is co-founder of VASA, and also a member of the organization’s board of directors.
The VASA Practicum provides a rare opportunity for healthcare professionals to have “hands-on” experience with surgical and interventional procedures for creating and maintaining vascular access for hemodialysis.
