
Robert W. Anderson, M.D., MBA
Dr. Anderson is the David C. Sabiston, Jr. Professor of Surgery at Duke University Medical Center and also served as Chairman of the Department of Surgery at that institution for eight years, until 2003. Dr. Anderson's research interests include cardiovascular surgery and physiology, pulmonary physiology, myocardial function and ventricular mechanics, and the economics of surgical care. Dr. Anderson is an opinion-leading surgeon in his field and is recognized both nationally and internationally for his accomplishments.
Brady W. Dougan, MBA
Mr. Dougan is the Chief Executive Officer of Credit Suisse. Prior to holding this position, he was Co- President, Institutional Securities of Credit Suisse where he oversaw day-to-day management and strategy of Credit Suisse First Boston's equity, fixed income, investment banking, private client services and alternative capital businesses. Mr. Dougan received a BA in economics in 1981 and an MBA in finance in 1982 from the University of Chicago.
Geoffrey Erickson, Ph.D.
Dr. Erickson joined Humacyte as President and CEO in September 2006. Prior to Humacyte, Dr. Erickson was a Principal with Pappas Ventures, a life-science focused venture capital firm that manages $250 million. Prior to and while at Pappas he was instrumental in many life science company financing transactions as well as designing several startup companies. Dr. Erickson earned his PhD in the Orthopaedic Surgery and Biomedical Engineering Departments at Duke University, where he also currently holds an Assistant Adjunct Professorship in the Department of Surgery.
Robert Langer, Ph.D., Professor,
Massachusetts Institute of Technology
Dr. Langer is one of 13 Institute Professors (the highest honor awarded to a faculty member) at MIT. Dr. Langer has written over 950 articles and has more than 600 issued or pending patents worldwide, one of which was cited as the outstanding patent in Massachusetts in 1988 and one of 20 outstanding patents in the United States. Dr. Langer’s patents have been licensed or sublicensed to over 200 pharmaceutical, chemical, biotechnology and medical device companies; a number of these companies were launched on the basis of these patent licenses. He served as a member of the United States Food and Drug Administration’s SCIENCE Board, the FDA’s highest advisory board, from 1995 -- 2002 and as Chairman from 1999-2002. During his career, Dr. Langer has received over 150 major awards with the most recent being the United States National Medal of Science.
Matthew Megaro
Mr. Megaro has extensive experience in developing biomedical ventures, most recently, a President, CEO and co-founder of Quill Medical, Inc. which commercialized a series of novel minimally invasive cosmetic surgery devices and which was sold to Angiotech Pharmaceuticals in 2006. Prior to this, he was President of Trimeris, Inc. which developed the first-in-class membrane fusion inhibitor for the treatment of HIV. At Trimeris, Mr. Megaro led business development and finance activities including an IPO in 1997. Prior to Trimeris, he was Chief Financial Officer for Athena Neurosciences which developed treatments for neurological disorders. His role included license and acquisition initiatives and leading Athena's IPO in 1991. Mr. Megaro is an inventor on numerous issued and pending U.S. and foreign medical device patents.
Dr. Laura Niklason, M.D., Ph.D., Founder and CSO
Dr. Laura Niklason, the Company's scientific founder, is a world leader in tissue engineering. Her research has appeared in some of the most highly regarded peer-reviewed scientific publications, including the journals Science and The Lancet. Dr. Niklason is currently Associate Professor of Anesthesia and Biomedical Engineering at Yale University. Dr. Niklason received her PhD in Biophysics from the University of Chicago and her MD from the University of Michigan. She performed her postdoctoral work at MIT in Dr. Robert Langer's laboratory.
Max Wallace, JD
Mr. Wallace is a Senior Fellow in Innovation and Leadership at the Kenan Institute for Emerging Issues at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Previously, Mr. Wallace was President and CEO of Cogent Neuroscience, an early-stage biopharmaceutical company developing therapies for neurological diseases. Before starting Cogent, Mr. Wallace was a co-founder of Trimeris, Inc., a public anti-viral research company. He also co-founded Duke Management Company; Sphinx Pharmaceuticals Corporation; SARCO, Inc.; and Mind in Motion, a private multimedia production company. Mr. Wallace received a bachelor's degree from Duke University and a JD from the University of Florida.
